Maryland has one of the strictest thresholds in the country at 88%.
Pick an answer on each question to see whether you got it right, with an explanation.
This is a short sample — DriveDrill has 200+ Maryland questions
and full-length mock exams in the app.
Q1. The back of your car starts to slide to the right. You should:
A Hold the wheel straight and brake
B Ease off the accelerator and steer to the right, where you want to go
C Brake hard and steer left
D Accelerate and steer left
Steer into the skid: point the front wheels where you want the car to go, ease off the pedals, and make small corrections.
Q2. You notice one headlight is out at night. You should:
A Get it replaced promptly — it is an equipment violation and other drivers misjudge your position
B Drive with high beams instead
C Drive only on lit roads
D Wait for the next inspection
From a distance one light reads as a motorcycle, and oncoming drivers misjudge how much room you take. Fix it before driving at night again.
Q3. In Maryland, you may not pass another vehicle if your view is obstructed within:
A 25 feet of a bridge, elevated road, or tunnel
B 500 feet of a bridge, elevated road, or tunnel
C 100 feet of a bridge, elevated road, or tunnel
D 1,000 feet of a bridge, elevated road, or tunnel
Maryland prohibits passing when your view is obstructed as you come within 100 feet of a bridge, elevated road, or tunnel.
Q4. In Maryland, when your high beams are on and a vehicle is coming toward you, you must switch to low beams at least:
A 50 feet before reaching the oncoming vehicle
B 1,000 feet before reaching the oncoming vehicle
C 100 feet before reaching the oncoming vehicle
D 500 feet before reaching the oncoming vehicle
Maryland requires drivers to change to low beams at least 500 feet before reaching an oncoming vehicle.
Q5. Driving far below the speed limit when conditions are good:
A Is always safest
B Can be dangerous and may be a violation
C Is required of new drivers
D Is allowed in any lane
Traffic that moves at very different speeds causes crashes. If you must go slow, stay right and let others pass.
Q6. Adjusting your side mirrors slightly outward compared with the usual setting:
A Reduces blind spots along each side
B Makes the rear-view mirror unnecessary
C Removes the need for a head check
D Is illegal in most states
Wider mirror angles shrink the blind spot, but a head check before changing lanes is still the move that catches what mirrors miss.
Q7. In Maryland, a newly licensed driver under 18 generally may not drive between:
A 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
B midnight to 5 a.m.
C 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
D 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Documented exceptions usually cover work, school activities, emergencies and driving with a licensed adult. Carry the paperwork if you rely on one.
Q8. In Maryland, during the restricted period, a young driver may carry:
A no more than one passenger younger than 21
B no passengers younger than 18
C no more than one passenger
D no passengers at all
Crash risk for a teen driver climbs sharply with each additional teen passenger, which is what this rule is built around.
Q9. Driving after using marijuana is:
A Only a problem for new drivers
B Legal where marijuana is legal
C Safe if you feel normal
D Illegal, and it impairs reaction time and judgment
Legal to possess does not mean legal to drive on. Impaired driving laws cover cannabis the same way they cover alcohol.
Q10. You should slow down before entering a curve because:
A It saves fuel
B The speed limit always drops in curves
C Braking in a curve can cause a skid and the vehicle needs grip to turn
D Your tires wear faster in curves
Slow in, steady through, accelerate gently out. Braking mid-corner shifts weight and can break traction.
