Connecticut's permit knowledge test is 25 questions, and you need 20 correct (about 80%) to pass.
Pick an answer on each question to see whether you got it right, with an explanation.
This is a short sample — DriveDrill has 200+ Connecticut questions
and full-length mock exams in the app.
Q1. You should never stop your vehicle:
A At a green light
B On railroad tracks
C On a two-lane road
D Within a block of a school
Never start across tracks unless there is room for your whole vehicle on the far side. Trains overhang the rails by about three feet on each side.
Q2. In Connecticut, the maximum speed limit on rural interstate highways is:
A 60 mph
B 55 mph
C 70 mph
D 65 mph
That is the highest limit the state allows on a rural interstate. The posted sign always governs, and a lower speed can still be required by conditions.
Q3. Under Connecticut's Vulnerable User Law, drivers passing a pedestrian, bicyclist, wheelchair user or highway worker must allow a clearance of at least:
A Three feet
B Six feet
C One foot
D Ten feet
This clearance is meant to protect vulnerable road users who have little protection if they are struck.
Q4. In Connecticut, the minimum age to apply for a learner permit is:
A 14, 6 months
B 16
C 14
D 15
Applicants under 18 also need parental consent, and the permit must be held for a set period before the road test.
Q5. After you move, you must usually:
A Do nothing until you renew
B Notify the licensing agency of your new address within a set number of days
C Wait until your license expires
D Notify only your insurer
States set a deadline, often 10 to 30 days. Renewal notices and suspension notices go to the address on file.
Q6. You are on a divided highway with a median and a school bus stops on the other side. In most states you:
A Must stop and sound your horn
B Must stop only during school hours
C Do not have to stop, but should still watch for children
D Must always stop
A physical median or barrier usually removes the requirement for traffic on the far side. A painted line is not a median, and rules vary, so learn your state's version.
Q7. Another driver is passing you. You should:
A Speed up to shorten the pass
B Stay in your lane and keep a steady speed or slow slightly
C Move onto the shoulder
D Brake hard to open a gap
Speeding up while being passed strands the other driver in the oncoming lane. Hold your line and let them complete the pass.
Q8. An exit number on a green sign tells you:
A The distance to the next city
B How many lanes the ramp has
C The speed limit on the ramp
D Which exit to take for a destination or route
Exit numbers usually match the nearest mile marker, which makes it easy to judge how far away your exit still is.
Q9. An oncoming driver fails to dim their high beams. You should:
A Flash your high beams back and hold them on
B Close one eye and continue
C Stare at the oncoming lights
D Look toward the right edge of your lane and keep your speed steady
Watching the right edge line keeps you in your lane while your eyes recover. Retaliating with high beams blinds you both.
Q10. In Connecticut, the law requires a car seat or booster seat until:
A The child turns 4
B The child turns 12
C The child is at least 8 and weighs at least 60 pounds
D The child turns 16
State law is a minimum. Safety experts recommend a booster until the adult belt fits properly: lap belt low across the hips and shoulder belt across the chest, not the neck.
