Nebraska's permit knowledge test is 25 questions, and you need 20 correct (about 80%) to pass.
Pick an answer on each question to see whether you got it right, with an explanation.
This is a short sample — DriveDrill has 200+ Nebraska questions
and full-length mock exams in the app.
Q1. In Nebraska, the law requires a car seat or booster seat until:
A The child turns 12
B The child turns 4
C The child turns 16
D The child turns 8
State law is a minimum. Safety experts recommend a booster until the adult belt fits properly: lap belt low across the hips and shoulder belt across the chest, not the neck.
Q2. After passing another vehicle, you should return to your lane when:
A The other driver flashes their lights
B You have finished accelerating
C You are one car length ahead
D You can see the vehicle you passed in your rear-view mirror
Seeing both headlights of the vehicle you passed in your mirror means you have enough room to move back over without cutting the driver off.
Q3. In Nebraska, an applicant under 18 must log how much supervised driving before the road test?
A 50 hours, including 10 at night
B 40 hours, including 10 at night
C 30 hours, including 10 at night
D 20 hours, including 2 at night
A parent or guardian certifies the hours. Night driving is where new drivers crash most, which is why a share of the total has to be after dark.
Q4. Excessive speeding, well above the limit, is treated more seriously because:
A It is only a problem in cities
B It wastes fuel
C Crash energy and stopping distance rise sharply with speed
D It is harder on the vehicle
Kinetic energy rises with the square of speed, so a small increase in speed is a large increase in damage and stopping distance.
Q5. Driving far below the speed limit when conditions are good:
A Is always safest
B Can be dangerous and may be a violation
C Is required of new drivers
D Is allowed in any lane
Traffic that moves at very different speeds causes crashes. If you must go slow, stay right and let others pass.
Q6. A motorcycle is entitled to:
A The shoulder only
B The left lane only
C Half a lane so a car can share it
D The full width of a traffic lane
Never share a lane with a motorcycle. Riders move within the lane to avoid road hazards and to stay visible.
Q7. Driving into low sun glare, the best response is to:
A Use high beams
B Slow down, use your visor and sunglasses, and increase following distance
C Follow the car ahead closely to use it as a shield
D Speed up to get past the glare
Glare hides brake lights and pedestrians. Slow down, clean the inside of your windshield, and leave more room.
Q8. Unless a sign prohibits it, a right turn on red is allowed:
A Without stopping if the way looks clear
B Only from a one-way street
C Only between certain hours
D After a complete stop and yielding to traffic and pedestrians
Right on red requires a full stop first, then yielding to everyone already entitled to go. A NO TURN ON RED sign removes the option entirely.
Q9. In Nebraska, a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs adds how many points to your driving record?
A 6 points
B 4 points
C 12 points
D 3 points
Nebraska's point system assesses 6 points against the driving record for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Q10. In Nebraska, using a hand-held cell phone while driving is:
A Illegal for all drivers
B Allowed for talking, but texting while driving is illegal
C Illegal for all drivers, but enforced as a secondary offense
D Banned in school and work zones, and texting is banned everywhere
There is no statewide hands-free law, so holding a phone to talk is not itself an offence. Texting is banned for all drivers, and new drivers face tighter limits.
